Life sometimes ain't all it's cracked up to be.
I know you've heard that line a thousand times. So have I. But have you actually experienced it? Have you had life sneak up behind you and whack you upside the head with a baseball bat? Knocking the breath out of you? Stopping time? No? Cool you can stop reading then. Oh and I want your life.
However, if you answered yes welcome to the party, I'm glad you feel me.
Sometimes, even in doing the things we want to do most in life we fall into this rut. Our dreams only come at night and quickly fizzle away as we wake in the mornings often making them appear intangible. When really it's up to us to just DO the dream. To LIVE it out.
When I feel this way here are a few things that snap me out of it (along with over analyzing my situation).
Okay so I'm not even the biggest chocolate consumer out there. But sometimes a girl just needs it. It helps ok?
COOK A DISH
This might seem weird to you but whenever I throw my brain into something else, something that calls for my undivided attention (which lemme tell you ain't much) I immediately feel lighter, like someone's taking weights out of this imaginary backpack I've been carrying around all week. I crank the heat and the volume on my laptop and dance as I throw some of this and some of that together. I think it releases some of those good endorphins or something. You should try it. Tonight. Go my darlings...go cook your dinner.
TURN OFF YOUR PHONE
Confession. As I'm typing this my phone is in my lap and it's constantly whining for my attention. And like a new momma with their first born child, I find myself giving in every single time. Which is why I'm saying this to myself. Patience turn your phone off so that you can properly respond to emails and get your work done. Instagram can wait. At least I think it can.
MAKE YOURSELF SOME TEA (OR COFFEE)
Probably isn't the healthiest thing in the world and it's most likely gonna shave off a few years of my beautiful life but like how do I even get anything done without it?
For the first time in forever I actually DIY'd something without adult supervision. Molly helped me make that marble tray you see in the photos. I dig it.
READ (your twitter feed doesn't count)
I think our eyes are going to turn to mush in a few decades if we don't stop staring at screens all day long (said as I stare at screens all day long). So it's nice to give your eyeballs a break sometimes. Read the physical paper or that book you've been trying to finish for a while. Your eye doctor will thank you.
Before I start my day, I clear my mind and pray. I pray for myself, for others, and most of all I thank God for allowing me to see another day.
Okay so we all have to work. We've got to pay those student loans back somehow (eye roll). But after that what is that thing you do that seems to temporarily stop time while you're doing it? Photography? Writing? Working with children? Whatever it is throw yourself into it. Constantly.
Soon you'll forget that life knocked the wind out of you and keep moving.
